Position Overview: This new full time Communications, Marketing and Design Coordinator position is a strategic addition to our collaborative team, furthering and deepening organizational objectives and serving our Changemaker partners in East Africa and our African Road circle of friendship here in the United States. This role goes beyond the scope of a more conventional communications position as this team member will become part of an expanding, innovative and impactful global story of hope, change and dignity. This position reports to and works closely with the CEO, working with that vision, while also innovating, and over time, taking a growing responsibility. This job is for you if you offer the following qualities, skills and experience:Qualities: A sincere desire to serve the mission of African Road and to work as an adaptive and collaborative member of our small but growing team is essential. The role will require strategy development and implementation as well as support and service to others. Communications and marketing will be guided by compassion and an affinity for the mission of African Road. The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise, an interest in learning, and will treat people with dignity and respect. Skills, Experience & Qualifications- Minimum of three years experience in a related field, ideally in the nonprofit setting. Bachelors degree or graduate degree in related field preferred.- Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed for events and other important deadlines. – Warm and personable attitude and authentic integrity.- Superb writing and storytelling skills, willing to copy edit and ghost write when needed (not a high need for recognition).- Must be proficient in a variety of technology platforms and programs, including word processing and database management systems. Skill and experience using WordPress and knowledge of website design preferred. Expertise with design software and more extensive design experience a plus.- Ability to produce attractive print and digital pieces for social media and campaigns.- Current knowledge of marketing trends and platforms.- Attention to detail.- Keen recognition of nuance in language and images.- Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media contacts is a plus. – Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. – Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.- Experience and competence in cross-cultural communication. Prior international experience is a plus but not required.- Know how to implement systems, but still respond quickly to latest updates and needs.- Respect for people from a wide range of religious traditions and faith practices, political and philosophical beliefs, and affiliations and backgrounds. – Demonstrated timeliness and accuracy, and ability to operate with integrity, joy, patience and kindness. ResponsibilitiesDigital Media Management and Communication (Daily)- Strategize, generate, coordinate and update content for the outward-facing digital communications and social media:Website (WordPress), oversee eventual website redesignBlogSocial media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook)Monthly e-newsletter (Constant Contact)- Manage social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook), including creating, designing, scheduling, posting, and engaging with followers.Oversight, Creation and Implementation- Coordinate the appearance of all organization print and electronic materials including letterhead, use of logos, brochures etc.- Build, execute, and manage a cohesive communication calendar, plan, and/or strategy spanning social media, print, and website communication around special events, international development days/information, and seasonal fundraising campaigns In consultation with the Executive Director.- Engage the US African Road community through telling the stories of transformation of our Changemaker partners and their communities and reporting the impact.- Create annual reports, mailings, and other print materials.- Formulate, refine, and maintain brand identity and guideline documents.- Ensure that all content and messaging is in accordance with African Road’s brand guideline and messaging strategy.- Create communications packages for funders as needed.- Support administrative staff with gratitude and education campaigns.- Develop targeted marketing strategies for various donor engagement levels.- Create, implement, analyze, and evaluate marketing campaigns for effectiveness.- Build relationships with the Changemakers and commit to understanding their work and impact.- Create innovative new ways of telling long-standing stories to invite new, and engage existing, audiences.- Cultivate media interest in African Road, ensure regular contact with target media, and respond to media requests.Planning and Budgeting- Responsible for the achievement of marketing, communications, and public relations goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Executive Director and Board. – Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Operations Manager each quarter to develop short- and long-term plans and budgets related to marketing and communications. Support for Fundraising Campaigns and Production of Promotional Media- Develop and execute digital fundraising campaigns for special giving days and events, special appeals and capital campaigns and to profile specific projects. – Participate in the planning of special events in conjunction with the African Road team, including tasks like video script writing and editing, developing key themes and messaging, and designing event print materials and preparing powerpoint presentations.
